6 Magical Spells with Dried Orange Slices

Dried orange slices are one of those witchy ingredients that somehow make you feel like you’ve got your life together, even if your altar’s covered in tea stains and there’s a pile of washing glaring at you from the corner of the room.

They smell incredible, look beautiful hanging up in the kitchen, and carry a surprisingly powerful energy in spellwork. Bright, sunny, warming, cleansing… basically the magical equivalent of somebody opening the curtains after three straight weeks of grey Lancashire drizzle.

In witchcraft, oranges are strongly linked to:

  • joy
  • abundance
  • luck
  • warmth
  • vitality
  • cleansing
  • solar energy

Which makes dried orange slices perfect for spells involving happiness, prosperity, protection, confidence, and emotional renewal.

Also, they’re cheap. Which we love.

Why Use Dried Orange Slices in Witchcraft?

Oranges carry strong solar energy. Even dried, they hold onto that bright, uplifting feeling.

They’re especially useful when:

  • a space feels emotionally heavy
  • you’re stuck in a rut
  • motivation’s vanished into the void
  • you need a bit of hope back
  • winter’s dragging your soul through the mud
  • life generally feels a bit “ugh”

Which, honestly, happens to the best of us.

Their scent alone can shift the atmosphere of a room. There’s a reason citrus gets used in cleaning products, mood boosters, and folk magic across loads of traditions. Humans collectively went:
“That smells like things might be alright actually.”

1. A Simple Prosperity Spell with Orange & Cinnamon

This one’s wonderfully easy and very kitchen witch friendly.

You’ll need:

Write a goal or intention onto the bay leaf. It doesn’t have to be dramatic. “Less financial panic” is a perfectly valid magical intention in this economy.

Place the orange slice, cinnamon, and bay leaf together near the candle.

As the candle burns, focus on warmth, stability, opportunities, and abundance flowing toward you.

Say:

“By citrus bright and fire’s glow,
Let abundance gently grow.”

Keep the dried orange slice in your purse, wallet, or workspace afterwards.

2. Joy & Good Mood Spell Jar

This one’s for those days where everything feels emotionally beige.

You’ll need:

Layer everything into a small jar while focusing on warmth, comfort, and happiness returning to your space.

No need to force toxic positivity either. We’re not pretending life’s perfect here.

This is more:
“Can I feel slightly less emotionally chewed up by existence please?”

Which is entirely reasonable magic.

Keep the jar somewhere sunny if possible.

3. A Sun Energy Spell for Motivation

Perfect during winter, burnout, or when your brain’s buffering like bad broadband.

You’ll need:

Arrange the orange slices around the candle and light it safely.

Sit quietly for a few moments and imagine warmth slowly returning to your body and mind.

You can say:

“Bring back warmth, bring back fire,
Wake the spark of my desire.”

And no, this does not guarantee you’ll suddenly become a productive woodland goddess who meal preps and journals daily.

Sometimes success is replying to one email and drinking water voluntarily.

4. Love & Attraction Magic with Orange

Orange magic works beautifully for joyful, warm, affectionate love.

Not obsessive nonsense.
Not “make them text me.”
Not spiritually stalking somebody through candle wax.

Real love magic should feel safe, mutual, warm, and emotionally healthy.

You’ll need:

Light the candle and focus on welcoming loving energy into your life, whether romantic, platonic, or self-directed.

Say:

“Sweetness, warmth, affection true,
Let love grow where kindness blooms.”

Honestly, half of love magic is just learning not to chase emotionally unavailable idiots anymore.

The herbs can only do so much.

5. Cleansing Bath for Emotional Reset

This is one of my favourite ways to use dried oranges.

Add to a warm bath:

Then just soak for a bit without scrolling your phone like a gremlin.

Imagine stress and emotional heaviness slowly lifting away.

No need to emerge transformed into an enlightened moon priestess.

Sometimes the goal is simply:
“Can I stop feeling like everybody else’s stress is living in my ribcage?”

That counts as healing too.

6. Seasonal Blessing Spell

This works beautifully around Yule, Mabon, Imbolc, or honestly anytime the seasons are shifting and life feels unsettled.

You’ll need:

Arrange everything around the candle and sit quietly for a few moments reflecting on what you want to carry forward into the next season of your life.

Not just goals.
Energy.

What do you want more of?
What needs to stay in the past where it belongs?

Because some things deserve growth.
And some things deserve binning.

Spiritually and emotionally.

How to Dry Orange Slices at Home

If you fancy making your own, it’s genuinely easy.

Slice oranges fairly thinly and bake them low and slow:

  • around 65°C
  • for 2–3 hours
  • turning occasionally

Your house will smell absolutely gorgeous afterwards. Like a witchy cottage instead of whatever weird teenager-snack smell currently lives in most family kitchens.

Let them cool fully before storing.

Final Thoughts

I love dried orange slices in witchcraft because they feel joyful without being fluffy.

They’re practical, accessible, beautiful, and deeply tied to warmth, light, and emotional renewal. There’s something comforting about working magic with ingredients that already exist naturally in everyday life.

No gatekeeping.
No £47 “manifestation kits.”
No pretending you live permanently inside an enchanted forest.

Just simple folk magic with things from the kitchen.

Which, honestly, is where some of the best magic lives.
