Everything you need to begin burning loose incense

Loose incense has a depth and atmosphere that incense sticks simply can’t replicate, but getting started requires a few specific tools.

Our Cauldron & Loose Incense Box brings them together in one practical set. You’ll receive a small lidded cauldron, protective mat, sand, charcoal discs and tongs, along with three traditional incense resins to explore.

There’s nothing else you need to hunt down. Set up your cauldron safely, choose your resin and begin incorporating loose incense into cleansing, altar work, meditation, spellcraft and ritual.

What’s inside your Cauldron Box?

Your box contains:

One small black cauldron with lid and handle
One round heat-resistant black mat
One pouch of sand
One tube of charcoal discs
One pair of long charcoal tongs
One 30ml tin of Copal resin

The sand is supplied in a resealable black pouch with a clear window. Each resin comes in its own labelled 30ml screw-top tin, making the collection easy to store between rituals.

Copal

Copal has a bright, uplifting fragrance traditionally associated with cleansing, purification, spiritual connection and creating sacred space.

It’s a lovely choice when clearing the atmosphere before spellwork, refreshing the energy of a room or beginning something new.

Frankincense

Frankincense has a warm, resinous fragrance and a long history of use in spiritual and ceremonial settings.

It is commonly associated with purification, protection, meditation, divination and raising spiritual awareness.

Myrrh

Myrrh has a deeper, earthier fragrance traditionally linked with protection, grounding, healing, remembrance and ancestral work.

It can be used alone or combined carefully with Frankincense to create a rich, layered ritual incense.

How to use your loose incense set

Place the heat-resistant mat on a stable, non-flammable surface away from draughts, fabrics and anything that could catch fire.

Add a generous layer of sand to the bottom of the cauldron. The sand helps support the charcoal and provides an additional barrier between the hot disc and the cauldron.

Using the tongs, hold one charcoal disc away from your face and carefully light one edge. The disc may begin to spark as it ignites. Place it onto the sand and allow it to heat fully until the surface begins to turn pale grey.

Add only a small pinch of resin at a time. A little goes a surprisingly long way. Allow each pinch to finish smouldering before deciding whether to add more.

You can burn Copal, Frankincense or Myrrh individually, or experiment with combining small amounts once you’re familiar with their fragrances.

Your ritual doesn’t need to be elaborate. A safely prepared cauldron, a small amount of incense and a few quiet moments of intention can be enough.

Important safety information

Charcoal discs and cauldrons become extremely hot during use and may remain hot for a considerable time afterwards.

For adult use only. Always use on a stable, non-flammable surface in a well-ventilated area. The included mat provides an additional layer of protection, but the cauldron should never be placed on delicate, polished, fabric-covered or heat-sensitive surfaces.

Use the tongs when lighting or moving charcoal. Never hold a lit charcoal disc in your fingers, lean directly over it or attempt to move the cauldron while it is hot.

Burn only a small amount of resin at a time. Never leave burning or smouldering incense unattended. Keep away from children, animals, draughts, curtains and other flammable materials.

Charcoal produces smoke and carbon monoxide. Never use it in an enclosed or poorly ventilated space. Do not use near smoke-sensitive people or animals, and discontinue use if the smoke causes discomfort.

Ensure the charcoal is completely extinguished and cold before disposal. Do not use water on a hot cauldron, as sudden temperature changes may damage it.

The incense resins are supplied for ritual fragrance use only. They are not intended for ingestion, cosmetic use or application to the skin.
